GREEN TEAM

As a conservation organisation the Trust puts sustainability concerns at the core of its work. The Trust took part in the Envision Programme run by Global Action Plan which involved auditing the environmental performance of the Trust. As a result of this and consulatations with staff a Green Team was set up to produce an action plan and take things forward.

 

The key achievements so far are:

  • Cockington awarded Eco-Centre Status by Encams
  • new Environmental Policy (download Word or PDF)
  • new Purchasing Policy (download Word or PDF)
  • new Travel Plan
  • use of certified timber e.g. FSC or our own
  • switch to green cleaning products
  • creation of new Eco-trail at Cockington Court
  • promoting water conservation measures such as installtion of water butts
  • promoting energy conservation measures
  • use of recycled office paper
  • new recycling system at Cockington and new public recycling bin
  • composting system in gardens and promotion of composting through interpretation and events
  • use of recycled paper in publications and leaflets
  • use of electric car for short journeys by staff
  • promotion of cycling and new cycle racks at Cockington Court and Berry Head
  • sustainable building features for new visitor centre at Occombe Farm
  • promotion of local food and fairtrade through Food Fair, Apple Day and Occombe Farm Project
