Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust (TCCT) has marked The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by planting an oak tree at Occombe Farm, Cockington Country Park and Maidencombe.
The trees will be planted with a commemorative plaque to honour the unique and special occasion.
Oak trees, traditionally associated with longevity and endurance, support more flora and fauna than any other UK native tree. They provide a haven for 2,300 wildlife species, 326 of which depend solely on oaks for survival.
The tree at Cockington has also been planted next to a very old oak tree in the arboretum, providing the next generation of oaks for the park.
Damian Offer, Chief Executive of Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust, commented: “We wanted to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in a way that recognises her incredible achievements while also representing the Trust’s key conservation aims here in Torbay.
“The oak tree, as the national tree of England, seemed very fitting for the occasion, and will also deliver long lasting benefits for wildlife and the environment.”
Please note, TCCT will be planting these oaks instead of lighting a beacon at Berry Head on Thursday 2nd June.
