We are delighted to confirm that Cockington Country Park has once again received the Green Flag Award – an international quality mark for parks and green spaces.
We are one of four parks that have received the Green Flag Award every year since the scheme was launched 28 years ago.
The Green Flag Award is designed to recognise sites that meet the needs of the community, are well maintained, safe and provide people with the opportunity to lead healthy lifestyles.
Parks are a vitally important part of this country’s green infrastructure, enabling people to improve physical and mental health even in the most built-up urban environments. We are immensely proud of our dedicated gardeners and volunteers who work tirelessly to create a wonderful space for both people and nature at Cockington Country Park.
Congratulating this year’s winners, Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said:
“We know beyond doubt that our local environment contributes to the wellbeing of individuals and communities, with our parks and green spaces recognised as areas where people can come together and be active. Research shows that time spent in green spaces can positively affect mental and physical health, quality of life and a sense of wellbeing. “
The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by Keep Britain Tidy in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy, Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful and Keep Scotland Beautiful under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
