How many adult helpers are we allowed to / should we bring?

The suggested adult/pupil ratios are as follows:

  • Early Years Foundation Stage is 1:3.
  • Key Stage 1 is 1:6.
  • Key Stage 2 and 3 is 1:10.

You are always welcome to bring more adult helpers with you to support your trip if needed. There is no additional charges for additional adults, providing they are here to help the group and help with the running of the trip.

Where can we store our bags for the day?

When you arrive, we will take you to a location where you can keep your bags for the day, as well as return to this location for lunch.

Where can we eat lunch?

We recommend bringing packed lunches, and there will be a location provided for your group to have their lunch at each location.

What should we do upon arrival?

Occombe Farm

Once your coach pulls into the main carpark at Occombe farm, one of our education team will meet you upon arrival, ready to great you and orientate you for your day.

Cockington

Upon arrival to Cockington Park, make your way to the visitor centre within the village of Cockington, where our team will be waiting for you to start your day. Coaches aren’t allowed into Cockington due to the narrow lanes, so some will park in a near-by road such as Seaway Lane, then there is a lane that connects to the village that you can walk down.

Berry Head

Upon arrival our staff will meet you at the main car park by the toilet block ready to introduce themselves and explain the plan for the day.

When should we visit?

We run sessions Monday-Friday during the school term times throughout the year. Our busiest period is between April-July, so booking early for this period is recommended to avoid disappointment. But depending on what your topic is, certain times of year may work better for your trip, i.e. spring is an ideal time to visit for baby animals.

How much time should we allow for?

We typically recommend an arrival time of 10am and departure time of 2:30pm to achieve a full day of two activities.

What shall we bring?

Student and staff should bring:

  • A packed lunch (including a drink).
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather including sturdy close-toed footwear.
  • Hats and sun cream on sunny days, and coats on rainy days.
  • Any medication that may be required during the trip.
How can I book our trip?

Please complete one of our enquiry forms, email tccteducation@countryside-trust.org.uk and a member of our education team will be in touch.

Can I book multiple days?

We have a residential building called Warren Barn within Cockington Country Park, a 30min walk from Occombe Farm for those wishing to do multiple days or more activities.

When will we be charged?

You will be invoiced after your visit, based on the numbers of students you bring with you on the day. Please complete our feedback form on the day to ensure we have the accurate numbers for the trip.

Are the education sessions suitable for pupils with special educational needs?

We are committed to supporting as many of these trips as possible and catering for the children requirements, but certain activities, such as rockpooling are less suitable for those in a wheelchair. For detailed information about accessibility at Occombe please see our accessibility page.

For further information please contact us at tccteducation@countryside-trust.org.uk and we can work together to find a solution to cater for your group.

Do you offer sessions for home educators?

We run home education sessions during more quiet periods of the year, including during January and September.

Please check our home schooling page for details. There is a maximum number of places on these trips and they fill up fast so remember to book onto them early.
