What to Expect

During this session, you can expect to take part in activities like these:

  • Sow a variety of seeds to take home and grow on your windowsill or in your garden.
  • Pot up additional seeds to be grown in our Community Garden.
  • Sow vegetable seeds for our polytunnels, helping to prepare for the growing season.
  • Plant pre-grown seedlings into raised beds, using plants grown either at Occombe or by visiting schools.
  • Add soil and compost to polytunnel beds to enrich the soil for future crops.
  • Take part in essential garden maintenance, including weeding and clearing beds to create space for planting. This may also include preparing the top garden for a wildflower meadow.
  • Learn how to use basic gardening tools safely and effectively.
  • Water newly planted seeds and polytunnels to support healthy growth

You’ll need to bring sturdy footwear and layered clothing to ensure you’re prepared for all weather conditions.
