Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust (TCCT) is proud to announce that its staff have undergone dementia awareness training to achieve their Purple Angel accreditation. This initiative ensures that TCCT’s team is equipped to support and welcome visitors living with dementia, making the Trust’s sites, which span nearly 80% of all Torbay’s green spaces, more accessible and inclusive for all.
The training was inspired by Norman McNamara, founder of the global Purple Angel Dementia Awareness campaign. Norman, who was diagnosed with dementia at an early age, first reached out to the Trust to encourage greater awareness and understanding of the condition. His passion for spreading awareness has been instrumental in guiding TCCT’s commitment to becoming a dementia-friendly organisation.
Speaking about the initiative, Norman McNamara said: “It’s fantastic to see Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust take this step in ensuring their beautiful spaces are welcoming to everyone, including those living with dementia.”
The Purple Angel initiative provides businesses and organisations with the knowledge and tools to better assist people with dementia.
Helen Warren, Chief Executive Officer of Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust, said: “We are absolutely delighted to achieve Purple Angel accreditation. This training, which includes communication techniques, empowers our team to provide a supportive atmosphere for people living with dementia and their families.”
This initiative is part of TCCT’s ongoing commitment to making nature accessible to all, reinforcing its role as a community-focused conservation charity.
